Educational and Teaching Contents in Children's Poetry

Abstract

The study of the educational and pedagogical themes in the children's poetry of Fadel Abbas Al-Kaabi reveals that he employed poetic texts as an effective medium for shaping children's personalities and fostering their cognitive and moral awareness, while maintaining a balance between entertainment and guidance. Educational values occupied a prominent place in his poetic experience, as he emphasized principles that contribute to social development through the child, including the role of the family, diligence, responsibility, honesty, generosity, wise friendship selection, and the promotion of peace and cooperation. His poetic work also demonstrates an evolution in his intellectual vision, moving from direct instruction toward more profound and sophisticated texts that align with the transformations of contemporary society, including technological advancements and artificial intelligence, thereby addressing children's intellectual and psychological needs. Educational content constituted a central component of his poetry, through which he sought to develop reading skills, encourage engagement with books and school life, and expand children's linguistic and scientific knowledge using an approach based on motivation and progressive learning. Furthermore, he addressed a wide range of educational topics, from introducing the school environment and its tools to developing drawing skills, accuracy, observation, letter recognition, and fostering a love of knowledge and self-directed learning. Consequently, his poetic texts evolved into an integrated educational and pedagogical project that contributed to children's cultural and moral development while preparing them to meet the demands and challenges of their era.
