Abstract

This study aimed to identify the effect of fasting on metabolic and energy indicators in primary school students by measuring a range of physiological and biochemical variables, such as blood glucose levels, pH, body mass index (BMI), and activity and energy levels in fasting students. The study was conducted at (Al-Khandaq Primary School) for Boys in the (Tel Abtah) district on a random sample of 20 students from the fifth and sixth grade. The researcher used a descriptive approach with a field study methodology. Data were collected before and during fasting through laboratory tests and activity and energy level questionnaires administered at the district health center. The results showed a slight decrease in fasting blood sugar levels, though these remained within normal limits. Improvements were also observed in some metabolic indicators, along with relative stability in pH levels. Furthermore, a slight decrease in body mass index was noted as a result of the dietary changes and the extended fasting hours. The study recommended that students' meals be carefully planned during Ramadan, emphasizing the importance of consuming fluids and essential nutrients to ensure adequate energy levels and healthy growth.
