Content evaluation, computer books, for e-learning standards (SSDE-ELC)Abstract
The study aimed to evaluate the content of computer textbooks in vocational education according to the Standards for Distance Education and E-Learning Courses (SSDE–ELC). To achieve this objective, the researcher developed an evaluation instrument based on the SSDE–ELC standards. The instrument's validity was established by presenting it to a panel of experts and reviewers. In its final form, it consisted of six standards comprising thirty-six sub-indicators. The researcher then analyzed the two computer textbooks prescribed for the Computer and Information Technology Department, Computer Assembly and Maintenance specialization: Computer Fundamentals (Computer and Information Technology) for the First General Grade (6th Edition, 2024) and Microprocessors for the Third Grade, prescribed for the 2025–2026 academic year. The page was adopted as the unit of analysis, while frequency served as the unit of enumeration. Holsti's formula was used to determine the reliability of the content analysis through agreement with external coders and with the researcher over time. The results showed that the vocational computer textbooks achieved (738) frequencies distributed across (6) standards, with (61) indicators achieved out of a total of (72) indicators. The Microprocessors textbook for the third grade obtained the highest number of frequencies, reaching (421) frequencies with a percentage of (57.05%), followed by the Computer Fundamentals (Computer and Information Technology) textbook for the first general grade, with (317) frequencies and a percentage of (42.95%). The overall percentage of inclusion of the Standards for Distance Education and E-Learning Courses (SSDE–ELC) in the two textbooks combined reached (84.72%), which exceeds the criterion percentage of (80%) adopted by the experts and reviewers. This indicates that the two textbooks included the e-learning standards to an acceptable degree.
