Abstract

This study aims to examine the status of reproductive health indicators in the districts of Al-Shamiya and Afak through an analysis of their numerical and percentage distributions, as well as their environmental distribution (urban–rural). The significance of this topic stems from its direct impact on morbidity and mortality rates and its pivotal role in determining the quality and level of women’s reproductive health worldwide. Consequently, the study places particular emphasis on investigating reproductive health indicators and the factors influencing them. The research addresses several key dimensions, including the determinants of reproductive health, the use of contraceptive methods, the choice of place of delivery, and the various subjective and objective factors associated with reproductive health. It also seeks to explore the future prospects of reproductive health and identify the major challenges and opportunities related to its development and improvement. Furthermore, the study aims to reveal and analyze the spatial variation of reproductive health indicators in Al-Shamiya and Afak districts by employing the geographical approach in general and the population geography approach in particular. This is achieved through examining the spatial differences of the phenomenon across various administrative units, thereby contributing to the future application of the findings in relevant developmental and planning fields. The study relied on official statistical data obtained from the Al-Qadisiyah Health Directorate. These data were supplemented by a field survey conducted through a specially designed questionnaire distributed to the study sample in order to obtain accurate information that would support the scientific analysis of the phenomenon and contribute to achieving the study objectives. The total sample size consisted of 381 respondents, including 207 from urban areas and 174 from rural areas. The findings revealed a clear spatial variation in reproductive health indicators among the administrative units of Al-Shamiya and Afak districts. Levels of access to and utilization of reproductive health services varied according to the demographic, social, economic, and health characteristics prevailing within each administrative unit. The results also indicated that educational level, income, place of residence, and the availability of health institutions are among the most significant factors influencing the reality of reproductive health in the study area.
