Abdolkarim Soroush's intellectual approach to neo-theology and philosophy of religion

Abstract

The world is changing in every environment, sciences are developing, and man and his thought are subject to those changes and form a change in his perceptions according to the necessities of the environment and the emergence of sciences, and he interacts negatively and positively with those sciences and phenomena. However, man’s knowledge in any era he witnesses and his understanding of those modern or contemporary sciences, discoveries and new philosophies, are the standard and measure of his understanding of religious sciences and knowledge, such as the Qur’an and Sunnah, for example. What Dr. Abdul Karim Soroush has reached in terms of modern knowledge, understanding, deduction and new interpretation of religious texts and social reality is the basis of his work in a modern style in which he kept pace with modern schools and trends and presented his results, sciences and investigations in a style that is approved by his era or consistent with it according to the high stages and lofty positions outlined by the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Islam.
