Abstract

The current research aims to identify the effectiveness of the oral history approach in the achievement of fifth-year literary stream students in the subject of history and in developing their temporal awareness. The researcher adopted the experimental method with an experimental design for two equivalent groups. The researcher randomly selected Safin Secondary School for Boys, which was divided into two classes (A and B). Class (A) was randomly selected to represent the experimental group, comprising (30) students, and similarly, class (B) was selected to represent the control group, also comprising (30) students. Thus, the total research sample consisted of (60) students، The researcher statistically ensured the equivalence of the two groups in the following variables: chronological age (measured in months), prior knowledge test, Raven's Progressive Matrices (intelligence test), and temporal awareness. The researcher determined the instructional material to be the topics from the history textbook for the fifth-year literary stream. He then formulated behavioral objectives totaling (135) objectives, covering the six cognitive levels of Bloom’s taxonomy in the cognitive domain، Regarding the research instruments, the researcher developed an achievement test consisting of (40) multiple-choice items with four alternatives, designed according to a table of specifications. The test’s validity, item discrimination, difficulty indices, distractor effectiveness, and reliability were verified. The reliability was confirmed using the split-half method. Additionally, a temporal awareness scale was developed, consisting of (56) items. The appropriate statistical methods were employed to analyze the data، The results indicated that students in the experimental group outperformed those in the control group in both the achievement test and the temporal awareness scale.
