Abstract

Did Basim Furat succeed in utilizing his poetic experience in exile? What were the defining characteristics of his poetry? What was the nature of his emotional and intellectual understanding of the poetic text? Contemporary poetry has occupied a prominent place in literary and critical studies, as it is a source of culture. A large number of poets have emerged on the literary scene, receiving considerable attention in literary and critical studies, including explanation, analysis, and study. This poet, however, has not received such attention. My reason for choosing this topic stems from my interest in contemporary Iraqi poetry. Therefore, I decided to study the thematic aspects of Basim Furat's poetry. Basim Furat is considered one of the most important poets who began writing poetry at a young age. The research included an examination of Basim Furat's upbringing and fell under the title "A Lament of Sorrow in Basim Furat's Poetry." The sources of this sorrow are: the impact of childhood circumstances on the poet's feelings, and the pain of war and exile.
