Names of Iraqi Cities in Shi‘ite Tafsīrs

Abstract

This study aims to examine the importance of Iraqi cities—foremost among them Kufa, Karbala, and Basra—and their prominent impact on the interpretive (exegetical) sensibility of the scholars of Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). The research seeks to demonstrate that the presence of geographical cities in Shi‘ite tafsīrs is not merely incidental geographic documentation, but rather a presence that carries ideological and historical significance.
