Abstract

Since ancient times, the inhabitants of Mesopotamia have relied on irrigation systems to support agricultural production, which formed a major part of the Mesopotamian economy. The inhabitants and rulers developed irrigation networks, cared for agricultural lands, and introduced reforms and laws that contributed to expanding cultivated areas and improving agricultural production. Irrigation systems varied across Mesopotamian regions in their methods and uses. This research focuses on the irrigation system, its methods and means, and the role of rulers and kings in developing it and establishing legislation that contributed to agricultural prosperity.
